The (2x4) is the typical reconstruction during MBE of (001) InAs. Two different reconstructions with a (2x4)-symmetry are known. They are named with increasing arsenic coverage alpha and beta. Both appear simutaniously.
Both types could be found on the same sample. Characteristic for these reconstructions are, that they are very well ordered. The "valleys" between the upper dimers are straight over several hundred nanometers [Yamaguchi94].
Any contribution is welcome.
